Piezoelectric ceramic sheet, commonly known as buzzers. A piezoelectric ceramic sheet is an electronic sound-producing component. Between two copper circular electrodes, a piezoelectric ceramic material is placed. When an alternating audio signal is connected to the two electrodes, the piezoelectric sheet will vibrate according to the size and frequency of the signal, thereby generating corresponding sounds. Due to its simple structure and low cost, piezoelectric ceramic sheets are widely used in electronic and electrical fields such as toys, audio electronic watches, electronic instruments, electronic clocks, timers, etc.

 

Working principle:
When an electric voltage is applied to a piezoelectric ceramic, it will undergo mechanical deformation in response to changes in voltage and frequency. On the other hand, when the vibrating piezoelectric ceramic is subjected to vibration, an electric charge will be generated. Utilizing this principle, when a voltage signal is applied to a vibrator composed of two piezoelectric ceramics or a piezoelectric ceramic and a metal plate, which is called a dual piezoelectric wafer element, it will cause bending vibration and emit ultrasonic waves. Conversely, when ultrasonic vibration is applied to the dual piezoelectric wafer element, an electrical signal will be generated. Based on these effects, piezoelectric ceramics can be used as ultrasonic wave sensors.

Piezoelectric ceramic components are made of lead zirconate titanate (PZT) as the core material and polycrystalline piezoelectrics through ceramic powder sintering process, which are polarized to provide electromechanical coupling characteristics. The structure of the components covers single-layer sheets (thickness 0.1-1mm), multi-layer stacks (2-100 layers) and composite cantilever beams, etc. The surface is plated with nickel/gold electrodes to ensure electrical conductivity, and the exterior is encapsulated with epoxy resin or protected by a metal shell to meet the requirements of different protection levels, such as IP67.
The use of positive piezoelectric effect (mechanical stress → electrical signal) and reverse piezoelectric effect (electrical signal → mechanical deformation) to achieve energy conversion. For example, in ultrasonic applications, the electrical signal drives the piezoelectric ceramics to generate high-frequency vibration (20kHz-15MHz) to emit sound waves, and conversely receives the echo through the positive piezoelectric effect into an electrical signal to complete the distance measurement or imaging function.
